Speakers cable thoughts from Ken Fischer

People have been asking me about the postings on this thread regarding the VansEvers speaker cables. I was sent a couple of VansEvers cables a while back for my evaluation. Here's what I found with the WTF model cable:

This cable did NOT change the way the EQ sections of my Komet amps work nor did they force me to re-EQ the amp to use the cable. The results I have found was that every area of the frequency spectrum seemed to be enhanced much in the same way as going from a dead, old set of guitar strings to a fresh new set of guitar strings. The WYF cable just adds more life and clarity to the sound.

I tested this cable with the Komet with three style vintage speakers; pre-Rola 25Sf pre- Rola 30s & original Vox alnico Blues. I also tested the cable with a modern cabinet; a new Rivera Anniversary Blond BC-410 open-backed cabinet featuring Rivera/Eminence speakers. The sonic performance of the WTF speaker cable was exactly equal with all four speaker choices! Interestly enough, all four cabinets used had different types of internal wire in different gauges -- three of the cabinets had PVC insulation on the wire and the Rivera cabinet is wired with Teflon insulated wire. The point being that an improvement [such as made with the WTF speaker cable] is STILL AN IMPROVEMENT. Whether rewiring your speakers with a higher quality wire will make an improvement, I personally think that it will. However, I would not remove the original wire in a vintage Vox or Marshall cabinet as this would detract from its current value.

As for the other VansEvers speaker cables [that have frequency EQ built in], I think that these can also be very useful. For example, if you owned a vintage Marshall 100 watt metalface head and this particular amplifier sounded shrill, wouldn't it be nice to EQ out that shrillness with a "tuned't speaker cable thus allowing you to make full use of your tone stack [Instead of forcing you to turn your treble & presence controls way down]?

Another example of using a tuned cable would be if you owned a vintage 412 cabinet & found the midrange to be muddy. Would it not also be desirable to use a cable to remove the "mud" from the midrange, thus enhancing the performance of your speakers?

As far as "tunlng" Is concerned, being an amplifier designer/builder myself, I find ANY
tooL(s) that will enhance your sound is a positive step.

I hope that this clarifies some of the questions/posts in this topic thread.

Best wishes, Ken Fischer
